The North River Theater building was originally built as a one room Norwell school house in 1865. If you look closely, you can still see the pattern of plugged holes in the floor, marking the locations of student chairs and desks.
In March of 1926, The Town of Norwell voted at its Annual Town Meeting, to grant the building and land at 513 River St., then known as Norwell Schoolyard District #7, to the local “Church Hill Improvement Association” (CHIA), the ancestral group of “North River Theater, Inc.” The first official meeting took place on the premises in February, 1927.
In January 1954, The building was transferred to the “North River Community Club, Inc.” Previously known as CHIA.
The present name “North River Theater, Inc.” Was created and recorded in September, 1996.
Through all those years a vast array of Plays, Shows, Dinners, and other events have been held in this wonderful “Gem in the Woods”. With an emphasis on quality entertainment!
